“This is a pure silver belt made with a Dutch coin from the 1920s. I wasn’t born yet, so my mother gave it to me when I was six, seven, or around ten years old. I can’t remember. It was being used daily.
The special thing is that those days we wore samfu, so I used it everyday. Maybe during that period, everyone was using it. Most people had it. I am no longer using it, but it reminds me of some good memories of my mother. I am just safekeeping it now. If I were to use it now, people will think that I am very weird, haha. People will think, “”Why is she wearing this?””
My mother bought this belt and kept it. I couldn’t wear it because I was born only in 1936. I wore it for about ten years. I think after the 1950s, people changed their attires, so I stopped using it. There is this second-hand dealer who has been coming round the area. He asked me, “”Do you happen to have a silver belt?”” I said yes, but I couldn’t find it. The following week, he came again, and I couldn’t find it. The third time he came, I still couldn’t find it. It must have been someone collecting it; that’s why he was so eager to come to my house three times. I found it in the end, but I don’t think I will sell it. It has a personal meaning. I may pass on to my children if they want.”
